We call some students Exceptional Learners, because for them to succeed, they need some exceptions from the regular instructional program. Basically, they need H.E.L.P.!
H.E.L.P. stands for...
Each child who qualifies for the Exceptional Learners Program will be placed on a H.E.L.P. The H.E.L.P. defines what specific changes are being made to that child's instructional program beyond the supports available to every child. To receive a H.E.L.P., a child must be accepted into the program and usually have a valid psycho-educational evaluation in place. Ordinarily, the school will ask parents to seek such an evaluation only after the three layers of support offered to all children do not help the child to grow in their learning over a reasonable amount of time.
