Learning multiple languages opens a child's eyes to a wider world and expands their developing brain's capacity to think critically and creatively. At the same time, quality foreign language education at the elementary level can be hard to find, especially in classical languages like Latin or increasingly important languages like Chinese. That is why SBS Online is proud to partner with Middlebury Interactive and Middlebury College to provide your child the opportunity to learn a new language from the comfort of your own home. Here is how it works!
Your child will be assigned a semester length course with suggested assignments each day. Children work at their own pace towards a predetermined deadline to complete all assigned work.
Children in Grades K-2 take foreign language courses solely for enrichment, which means a teacher is not provided to assess their progress.
Starting in Grade 3, your child can choose to take courses for enrichment or for a grade. If taken for a grade, a highly qualified teacher is assigned who monitors and assesses their progress, modifies assignments as needed, and issues a final grade. At the end of each semester, St. Benilde School issues a grade and a transcript for the coursework completed.
Children in Grades 6-8 who complete two years of a foreign language for credit may also qualify to receive high school credit for the freshman level course (though that is ultimately up to your child’s high school of choice).
