At St. Benilde School, your child is our curriculum! Therefore we believe that multiple and varied assessments are central to providing your child with personalized instruction day in and day out!
For children from Prekindergraten 4 through Grade 7, the base assessment we use is the STAR benchmark assessment in reading, math, and early literacy. This dynamic computer adaptive test provides us with highly detailed reports of what skills and content your child is ready to learn. This in turn allows her teachers to provide experiences in large group, small group, and one-on-one situations designed to maximize her learning. So whether your child is gifted, advanced, on-level, or delayed, SBS can provide him with a high-quality education with expectations perfectly aligned with his potential.
For children in the Loreto Early Learning Center through Prekindergarten 4, we also use the Gold benchmark. This assessment is a comprehensive developmental checklist and child portfolio that tracks each child's progress towards meeting the State of Louisiana Birth to Five benchmarks for school readiness. This all-digital assessment not only guides the teacher in designing instruction, but also allows parents real time access to how their child is developing socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.
Towards the end of each year, we use the ACT Aspire standardized assessment to take a macro-level snapshot of how each child in Grades 3-6 is performing relative to the College and Career Readiness standards used in the ACT taken during the Junior and Senior years of high school. We use this data to even further fine-tune your child's day-to-day instruction, as well as to review and improve school practices as a whole.
All of this is in addition to the many teacher-made tests, projects, quizzes, and more used to assess your child's ongoing progress.
Underlying our use of assessments is a fundamental belief: At St. Benilde School, we don't teach to the test, we use the test to better teach your child!
